Experimental Investigation of the Desalination Process for Direct Contact Membrane Distillation Using Plate and Frame Membrane Module

Through experiments, the effect of membrane material selection and operating conditions on permeate fluxes in direct contact distillation (DCMD) desalination was investigated. The experiment used a plate frame module, with nine different hydrophobic porous membranes, comparative analysis performance 3 wt% NaCl solution performed. results this were compared to find out materials, pore sizes thicknesses flux under same conditions. Further, three-factor, three-level orthogonal designed. effects hot-side temperature, inlet flow cold-side PTFE membranes size 0.22 μm investigated when temperature cold side set at 20 °C. showed that DCMD both PVDF performed well, temperatures rates had significant flux.
